Joey Feek of the country and bluegrass duo Joey and Rory recently passed away and was laid to rest at her home in Indiana. Joey’s husband, Rory, opened up about her funeral service in a recent blog post.

Breaking Christian News notes that after a lengthy battle with cervical cancer, Joey went home to be with the Lord earlier this month. She was laid to rest on Tuesday, March 8.

On his blog This Life I Live, Rory shared the story of the day they laid his wife to rest.

"In a grove of sassafras trees behind our farmhouse, with friends and family gathered around, we said goodbye to the greatest person I have ever known," wrote the 50-year-old who has a small daughter named Indiana with Joey.

“The service started in our barn/concert hall," Rory continued. "The last time we were on that stage, was in early October and Joey and I were singing together. But now, a photograph of Joey was in the spotlight... and I was one of many who were there to honor her."

Friends and pastors spoke and sang at the service to honor Joey and celebrate her life.

Rory says that it was a beautiful day with the daffodils blooming when they laid Joey to rest, just like she wanted, in a simple wooden coffin.

“And when most of the guests had gone and the sun was starting to fade, Indy and I took the short walk together into the back field to see her mama one more time,” writes Rory, adding that he and Indy will always remember Joey and know that she will always be with them.
