Samaritan's Purse Doctor Relocated to Georgia, Continues to Battle Ebola Virus

Dr. Kent Brantly, the Samaritan’s purse doctor who contracted the ebola virus while serving in Liberia, has been moved to the United States to continue treatment. Reports say Brantly is continuing to battle the virus, but his condition is improving. 

Brantly’s wife Amber was able to see her husband and speak with him despite his quarantined state. She reported Brantly was “in good spirits” and was grateful for the prayers for his healing. 

Samaritan’s Purse released a statement saying, “We praise God for the news that Kent's condition is improving. We can confirm that Kent was able to receive a dose of the experimental serum prior to leaving Liberia.” 

Brantly was transported via a quarantined jet, and is now located at Emory University Hospital. Doctors are taking every precaution to keep the virus from spreading in the United States. 

Hospital officials said, "Emory University Hospital has a specially built isolation unit set up in collaboration with the CDC to treat patients who are exposed to certain serious infectious diseases. It is physically separate from other patient areas and has unique equipment and infrastructure that provide an extraordinarily high level of clinical isolation. It is one of only four such facilities in the country."

Nancy Writebol, the American missionary who contracted the virus while volunteering in Monrovia, is due to arrive in Georgia this week.
