A bill has been introduced in the Senate that would prohibit underage girls from getting abortions without parental consent.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida) introduced the bill to address the problem of underage girls crossing state lines to obtain abortions without parental consent, since some states require parental consent for abortions but others do not.

The bill does not punish the young women, but would punish abortion doctors who performed abortions on minors with up to a year in prison, according to OneNewsNow.com.

Emily Troscinski of Illinois Right to Life commented on the discrepancy between what parental consent is required for:

"Right now a minor girl needs her parents' permission to receive a Tylenol from her school nurse. However, that same girl can be taken to Planned Parenthood and receive an invasive procedure that poses health risks to the girl and dismembers her unborn child without their parents ever knowing."

"The abortion industry needs to stop playing political football with our young girls and put them first," she adds.

OneNewNow.com notes that a 2011 Gallup Poll revealed that 71 percent of people approve of a parental notification law for underage women who want to get abortions.
