Study: Young Evangelicals More Accepting of Gay Rights Than Parents, Remain Conservative on Abortion

New research has found that while evangelical millennials take more liberal views than older generations on some issues, they agree with older generations on others.
The two biggest issues which the Pew Forum analyzed were gay rights and abortion. Research revealed that young evangelical Protestants were more accepting of gay marriage and gay rights than their parents, but shared with older generations conservative views on abortion.
“Evangelical Protestants who are Millennials (those born from 1981 to 1996) are considerably more likely than older evangelical Protestants to support same-sex marriage and to say homosexuality should be accepted by society,” said a Pew Forum article on the research.
However, says the article, “There is no statistically significant gap at all in the abortion views of older and younger evangelicals. Millennial evangelicals are just as likely as their older counterparts to say abortion should be illegal in most or all cases (65 per cent versus 63 per cent).”
Evangelical millennials were also more likely than their parents to have more liberal-leaning views when it comes to issues of immigration and the environment.
Additionally, about half of evangelical millennials (51 percent) identified with the Republican Party, which is almost comparable to the 57 percent of older generations of evangelicals who said the same.
