A suicide bomb attack at a school in Nigeria has killed 48 students and wounded 79 others. The Sydney Morning Herald reports that no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Boko Haram is likely to blame.

The attack was carried out in the town of Potiskum in Yobe state.

At the time of the bombing, the students were gathered for their daily morning assembly.

Witness Adamu Alkassim said that the scene was chaotic; victims that were reportedly in their teens were transported to the Potiskum General Hospital, about 100 meters from the school.

A teacher who wished to remain anonymous said, "There are some that are critically injured and I am sure the death toll will rise.”

The attack was in the wake of the release of a new Boko Haram propaganda video in which terrorist leader Abubakar Shekau said that the militant group has not agreed a ceasefire with the Nigerian government.
