US Senate Unanimously Passes Act to Add FDR’s D-Day Landing Prayer to WWII Memorial

On June 6, the U.S. Senate passed by unanimous consent the WWII Memorial Prayer Act, legislation to add President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s D-Day Landing Prayer to the WWII memorial, Breaking Christian News reports.

The legislation was passed on the seventieth anniversary of D-Day, on which President Roosevelt took to the airwaves and prayed for God’s blessing and protection upon the Allied forces landing on the beaches in Normandy. "Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity…."

Should the House of Representatives pass the act, the prayer would be inscribed in stone at the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC. One of the bill’s sponsors, Senator Rob Portman (OH) said this about the act, “At no cost to the taxpayer, our bill will immortalize this extraordinary prayer on the World War II Memorial so it becomes a permanent reminder of the sacrifice of not just those who fought in World War II, but also of the men and women who fight for us today and all those who lay down their lives for the cause of liberty.”
