What CNN Isn’t Telling Us about the Planned Parenthood Story

A recent CNN report on Planned Parenthood was riddled with “errors, half-truths and deceptions,” Mollie Hemingway, of The Federalist, writes in a column.

Hemingway said that Drew Griffin’s report for CNN on Planned Parenthood made her “scream” because of its falsities.

She says the segment tried to uncover the “real story” behind the Center for Medical Progress’ videos on Planned Parenthood, but failed.

“It doesn’t dig into the human organ harvesting business. It doesn’t dig into anything mentioned above. It doesn’t for even a moment investigate the claims made in the videos. And it doesn’t check out any of the claims made by Planned Parenthood in defense of their practices.”

Reporter Griffin spends the segment arguing that the B-roll footage was misleading in the videos, but “video journalists use B-roll to illustrate stories. They all do it,” Hemingway said.

In the CNN report:

GRIFFIN: “The problem people are having this is not an aborted child and not the baby Holly is talking about, and that seems very — that does seem very deceptive to me.”

DALEIDEN: “I don’t see the deception, and frankly, I think it’s kind of, I think it’s kind of a controversy drummed up by the media…”

Said Hemingway, “The idea that we’d spend seven minutes litigating whether B-roll is acceptable — in a report that uses B-roll — and give Planned Parenthood a pass on all the organ harvesting is a perfect demonstration of how awful our media have been in covering this story.”
