Turning Japanese

by Berni Dymet

Rom 8:11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit that dwells in you.

Just recently, I met an American called Tim.  He's slightly rounded, vertically challenged, greying hair, beard - in fact it's like he's got "American Tourist" stamped across his forehead.

But for the last 26 years, he's been living in Japan.  And when you get to know him, what you discover is that on the inside, the guy's Japanese.  You'd never guess just looking at him.  And you know why I think that is?  Because in his heart, he's committed to Japan.

Someone asked me recently - what does it mean to be a "born again" Christian?  They sort of shuddered when they asked it.

Well for me - it's a bit like Tim and the Japanese thing.  When I accepted Jesus - it wasn't an arms length thing.  I made a decision and a commitment to put Him first.  On the outside I have "Australian Tourist" stamped on my forehead.

But if you get to know me, on the inside, I'm a new man because when I made that commitment the very Spirit of God took up residence in my heart.
