Sooner or Later

by Berni Dymet

Luke 17:4 And if the same person sins against you seven times a day, and turns back to you seven times and says, ‘I repent,' you must forgive.

Now I imagine that if I did something to annoy you today, well, if I came to you and apologized, chances are, you'd forgive me … once at least.

But now imagine, imagine that I do the same thing over and over again.  Say … seven times today, and again seven times tomorrow, and again seven times the next day.

As wonderful a person as you no doubt are, my hunch is that at some point, sooner or later, your patience would wear thin.  Am I right?

And I have to tell you, if the shoe were on the other foot, I'd probably lose patience with you too. Only with me, it would probably be sooner rather than later.

So Jesus - Jesus comes along and says, if the same person does the same thing to you seven times a day and apologizes each time - forgive them.

Is He mad?  I mean - who would come up with a crazy idea like that?
