Dad's Kids
by Berni Dymet

1 John 3:1 See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are.

I remember when I used to walk into my father's house - well, I had privileges in that house - even after I'd grown up and left - privileges that other people didn't have.

You for instance - could not have walked into my dad's place and enjoyed the access and privileges that I did when he was alive.  And there's a reason for that - because he was my dad and not yours.  I was his son - and as one of his two children I called him dad and he called me son.

Obvious really.  And that's exactly the picture I think that we're meant to see when God reveals Himself to us as our Father.  In fact Jesus called Him Abba - and the best translation I have of that word is - Dad.

When God comes along and says - I'm your Father - He's drawing the picture I just drew for you of my dad and me.

Not just God, but God the Father.  In fact … God the Dad!
