More than Conquerors
by Berni Dymet

Rom. 8:35-37 Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, "For your sake we are being killed all day long; we are accounted as sheep to be slaughtered." No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

When your favourite team wins the grand final- whatever sport it might be -they celebrate long and hard, don't they?  They beat all the other teams in the competition.  In every sense they are conquerors.

But there's this idea - Paul the Apostle a couple of thousand years ago - he came up with it - this idea that in the midst of trials and battles, we can be more than conquerors.  Interesting - what can be better or more than being a conqueror?

That made me think.  A conqueror is someone who wins - and then surveys his or her territory, revels in the glory of winning and that's it.

But someone who's more than a conqueror?  You know what that speaks of?  It's someone who has more than enough victory in their heart, to share round.  It overflows out of them.  They can't help it.  They infect other people with it.

Being a conqueror - oh yeah, I guess that's okay.  But me - me I want what Paul was talking about - I want to be this - more than a conqueror.
