How To Overcome Destructive Habits-Part 1

December 4, 2013

My friend, are you struggling with a destructive habit? Have you tried to quit over and over and over again, but failed? The first reason we fail to overcome bad and destructive habits is because we try only in our own strength. We try mentally by thinking positive thoughts about ourselves, we try with good old-fashioned will power and that too ends in defeat.

We strongly desire to overcome our habit and with equal desire we enjoy our habit.

You see we can be what the Bible calls double-minded. James 1:8 – “a double-minded man, is unstable in all his ways.”

My friend, your hope can only be found in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He is or can be your strength to overcome the bondage you are in. Instead of thinking it is all up to you, you need to turn it all over to Him. If you are not a child of God that means He does not live inside of you, therefore, you do not have His everlasting and all-sufficient strength and cannot experience His sacrificial and eternal love for you. My friend, this is exactly what you need.  Right now, you can replace that drug or chemical that is floating through your blood stream and right now you can receive God’s Spirit into your human spirit allowing Him to completely control you. Drugs and alcohol always wear off and you have to find more. God living inside of you never wears off and He said in His word, “I will never leave you or forsake you.”

My friend, this destructive habit, forsakes you every single day. Choose God over your habit. Be as gladly surrendered to God as the alcoholic is to the bottle.

My friend, today ask Jesus to come into your heart, and He will.
