What Is Eternal Life [Part 2]

January 31

What is the difference between eternal life and everlasting life? Both are spoken of in the Bible. Eternal life is the spiritual life that Christ gives, for He is eternal. Everlasting life is life that shall never end. When I receive Christ, He is eternal, but His life begins in me when I am saved and it is without end, so this life, Christ’s own life is everlasting with me.

When may a person receive eternal life? The moment a person asks Jesus to come into their hearts, they have eternal life. John 3:36 – “….He who believes in the Son has everlasting life….”

How much clearer can the Bible be? When Jesus said, “I am the truth,” He meant that we can can know the truth about God from the Word He has given.

Jesus also said, “I am the way.” He is the way to Heaven; He is the Savior to save us from sin and Hell. He also said, “I am the life.” Because of Him, we have His indwelling life here on earth and we have everlasting life in Heaven.

Think about this, if we can lose our everlasting life, it is not everlasting. If we can lose our eternal life when we sin, it means that our salvation depends upon our being good. But Titus 3:5 says, - “….not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit….”

If we have to help God, then He cannot save at all; He is not God!  My friend, eternal life is a gift. Romans 6:23 – “….The gift of God is eternal life….”
