A Rest For Your Soul-Part 4

May 22, 2014

Our personalities were not made to be self-centered; they were made to be God centered. Have you ever had someone tell you, “This is just the way God made me. This is just how I am.” My friend, God made us to be Christ centered, not self-centered. Your personality, when it is right should be a reflection of the fruit of the Holy Spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, long-suffering, and self-control. If you are not like this, then what people are seeing is just you, in your selfishness.

You see, sin separates, and instead of making us Chris centered it makes us wrong-centered. Self-centeredness causes this inner conflict that we feel. There is a war going off within us and it is the war between the flesh and the spirit. You want your way and the Spirit of God wants His way. My friend, if this is going on within you, then there is good news because it means that you are saved.

We all experience this struggle with the flesh and the Spirit in our Christian lives. My friend, if we have not experienced this, then we must be born again.  It should bother us when we sin, when we feel this struggle going on between the flesh and the Spirit and we give way to the flesh (self).  This should bring conviction to our souls as God’s spirit reveals to us that we are sinning as His child.
