Read: Psalm 102
Key Verse: “He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; He will not despise their plea.” - Psalm 102:17
Being destitute implies missing what is essential (food, water, clothes, hope, etc) and not being able to acquire it yourself. As you read this verse, you probably have a roof over your head, access to food, clean water, and warm clothes on your body. You may, however, be trapped in a sin and bad habit, feel alone, be overlooked and underappreciated, living an empty dream, overwhelmed by stress, or hurting beyond words. There are many ways to arrive at an experience of being destitute.
One blessing that everyone shares is the ability to call out to God in any and every situation. In this psalm, an afflicted man is pouring out his soul to God. There is comfort in knowing that God does not despise your plea. In fact, our prayers out of sincere desperation, disappointment, and pain touch God’s heart. God will rebuild lives and shine His glory where there are only ruins.
