Read: 1 Timothy 1

Key Verse: “But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display His unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on Him and receive eternal life.” - 1 Timothy 1:16

The apostle Paul is someone who admits his sins. There is no rationalizing, denying, or covering up his rebellion. Have you come clean with the Lord? It is the only way to experience His forgiveness. Mercy is when God treats you better than you deserve. Because of sin, there is no way we can come into the presence of a holy God  covers us in His mercy. Mercy has a steep price tag, and Jesus paid it all on the cross. The crux of the Christian faith is God’s mercy that is demonstrated in Jesus’ death on our behalf. Do you ever stop and realize how much mercy God has given you?

God’s mercy includes His patience. When was the last time you forgave someone? Anyone you still need to forgive? Because you have received God’s mercy in Jesus, you are required by God to be merciful. God showed Paul mercy; Paul became merciful instead of violent, and other people saw the mercy of God in Paul’s life so they chose to receive the mercy of Jesus and eternal life.

Mercy is contagious. Have you repented and received Jesus as your savior and Lord? Justice would land all of us in hell, but Jesus’ mercy rescues us forever!
