The Father’s Blessing - Saturday, December 15th 2018
So Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him, and Esau said in his heart, "The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then I will kill my brother Jacob."
Esau was on a bad path. He had despised his birthright years earlier, selling it for a single meal (Gen 25:29-34). He later connected with two women outside of the faith and family of Isaac his father (Gen 26:34-35) grieving his parents. And now, instead of owning up to his mistakes, Esau is ready to kill his brother Jacob for deceiving their father to receive his blessing that God had already told Rebekah would be Jacob’s (Gen 25:23)
Friend, this battle happens in our flesh all the time. Part of our fallen human nature is willing to sell out to the flesh and miss the Spiritual blessing that we can have in Christ. This bad decision Esau made multiplied to a point where his descendants would carry on this wayward fleshly mindset that impacted generations. The flesh has no desire to please God but only itself. And if it’s unchecked it can and will sabotage the Spiritual Blessing our Heavenly Father wants us to experience.
Are there areas of your life that are not yet yielded to the Spirit? Are there places in in your life where part of you even despises the Lord, the Lord’s people, or certain things God has laid out for you in His word? Do you in turn get mad at others? Don’t let your flesh rule over you as it did Esau. If you have messed up, choosing your fleshly desires over the things of God, come back to the Lord and repent afresh. Jesus desires to extend to us the eternal love, forgiveness, and blessings that abound toward us as we partake of Christ. These are the blessings that never fade. Open up to the Lord, confess where you have failed today, and allow His grace and forgiveness to flow to you and through you to others.
Life Lesson: When you mess up own up to it or you will be tempted to destroy others in the process.
Please forgive me when I fall into fallen and fleshly inclinations. Please empower me to live for You in all my ways, choosing to esteem the Spiritual blessings found in Christ more than my own reasoning. In Jesus' name, amen.
Living to tell what He died to say,
