Before the Lord - Thursday, March 5th 2020
28 And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.” 29 Then Jacob asked, saying, “Tell me Your name, I pray.” And He said, “Why is it that you ask about My name?” And He blessed him there. 30 So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: “For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.” 31 Just as he crossed over Penuel the sun rose on him, and he limped on his hip.
Jacob had spent the night wrestling with God. God blessed Jacob and left a lasting mark as He touched the socket of his hip and left Jacob with a limp. When God asked Jacob who he was, Jacob replied with his name. His name meant, ‘deceiver’. Jacob had spent his life deceiving. He took the blessing of his older brother by being a poser with the hair and the smell of Esau. In chapter 32, Jacob was willing to admit that he a conniver, a shuck and jiver, but God said ‘your name shall no longer be Jacob, (you will get a new name) you will be called Israel.
Every leader has a limp, I once heard ‘never trust a leader without a limp’. It seems that all people, all leaders have a limp (a weakness), except Jesus. Therefore, we need Jesus and we also need each other. We all have blind spots. We must confess before God we have a limp (weakness) before God can bless us. Be honest, be real, before the Lord and He will bless you, change you, heal you, forgive you and lift you up.
Life Lesson: Be honest, be real, before the Lord and He will bless you, change you, heal you, forgive you and lift you up.
Thank You for being a pursuing God. Help me to be open to You where I am weak. Show me those areas and help me to trust You in all areas of my life. You are faithful and good, thank you for continuing to work in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
