They joined with the other believers and devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, sharing in the Lord's Supper and in prayer.
I have often thought about the early church and how it must have appeared. There was a dynamic move of the Lord and the people responded. The verse here says they devoted themselves. In my estimation, we need to consider that devotion... what did it look like and how was it expressed? Once again, we look at this scripture for our answer. These early Christians were devoted to teaching, to fellowship and to one another.
Commitment and devotion to a local church body are more important than we might appreciate. When we read the book of Acts we discover that there were heated disagreements. Yet this devotion they had to one another preserved the relationship. Do not get caught up in a never-ending loop of hopping, bopping, and shopping for a church home. If you do that, my friend, you will miss out on incredible things. Make a commitment and devote yourself to the very same things we see the early church devoting themselves to; teaching, fellowship, sharing in the Lord's Supper and prayer. I promise you, it will be a life-changing experience.
Life Lesson: We should be devoted to a local church body.
Thank You for teaching and showing me how to live my life in ways that open it up to blessing from You. I want to be a part of what You are doing in the world and not just a spectator. Please use me. If I have been living on the sidelines, please forgive me and lead me to the church that is my home. I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
Living to tell what He died to say,
