Matt 13:31-32

31 Another parable He put forth to them, saying: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field, 32 which indeed is the least of all the seeds; but when it is grown it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches."

We see throughout the whole of scripture that the birds mentioned in the parables aren’t friendly and point to the enemy (Matthew 13:4,9). So it is with those of us who have the Gospel and God’s word planted in our hearts and lives. The insignificant looking mustard seed blossoms and blooms into a great tree, but the enemy seeks to find a place in that tree when it grows. Perhaps you are new in your faith in Christ and you are excited about growing in the Lord. That’s awesome and good. Then you decide to attend a bible study, pray with others, share your faith, or give up that old sinful habit that has been beating you down and you begin growing more deeply in your relationship with Jesus. Friend, when you do that, expect the attention of the enemy to come to steal, kill, destroy, or divide you against the work of the Lord, your walk with the Lord, and with God’s people.

We shouldn’t be surprised that the enemy would seek to sabotage the work of the Lord in our lives. Yet sometimes, when we aren’t on our toes spiritually, we can get caught off guard by the attack and misunderstand the blessing God is seeking to bring to our lives. Our walk with God isn’t meant to be enemy focused but we should be enemy aware. When we begin building God’s kingdom by inviting people to know the Lord, or seek to pursue intimacy with the Lord ourselves, know that the enemy will be at work. But also be encouraged to know greater is He that is in us then he who is in the world.

Life Lesson: After we choose for Jesus to be our Lord, we should expect external spiritual battle.

Lord, thank You for Your grace. Please help me be aware of what You are doing in my life, and that the enemy isn’t happy about it. Help me to recognize and realize the victory I have in You, and to be on my toes ready to endure and continue in Your grace and goodness no matter what comes my way. In Jesus' name, amen.

Living to tell what He died to say,
