The Owner’s Manual

Proverbs 3:1-4

It’s been nine years since I got my Toyota Tundra and the other day I opened my glove box and took out the “Owner’s Manual.”  On the cover it reads, “For your safety and comfort, read carefully and keep in the vehicle.” Inside the Foreword states in bold letters, “This Owner’s Manual explains the operation of your new Toyota. Please read it thoroughly and have all the occupants follow the instructions carefully. Doing so will help you enjoy many years of safe and trouble-free motoring.”

The wise father in Proverbs holds that our Creator has given us a Life Manual, and all we need to do is open to the Book of Proverbs. Like Toyota, God promises many years of “safe and trouble-free” living if I will only remember and live the instructions provided.

“My son, don’t forget my instructions. My commands guard in the core of your being, for they will give you a long life, many years, and these years will be filled with peace. Don’t abandon the covenant loyal love and trustworthiness expressed in God’s commands! Bind them around your neck? Write them on the tablet of your heart! If you do, you will find favor and good reward both in the eyes of men and God.” Proverbs 3:1-4

LORD, help me see that Your instructions and Your commands express Your loving devotion and dependability towards me. I trusted the engineers who designed and built my Tundra. I obeyed what they said, and they were right.  It has run great for nine years. Help me to believe that my life will run right if I keep following Your instructions by the power of Your Spirit.
