Faster than Amazon Prime

Daniel 9:20-23

I pulled the cord on our 6.0 HP Snapper push mower. It started, but when I tried to mow some heavy grass, it bogged down and stopped. Wallace, a close friend, was here at the house. “Have you checked the air filter? It’s running rich.” The air filter looked like it hadn’t been changed in thirty years and rightfully so. I took a picture of my mower and the plate with the model number, went inside, turned on the computer, and went straight to Amazon. Talk about a quick response to my order! Yesterday the new air filter was already in my mailbox.

Amazon Prime prides itself on a quick response to our requests, but we have to pay. Long before the Amazon and the Internet, Daniel’s God was even quicker to respond when his precious servant had some urgent requests on his heart.

“While I was still speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel and pleading for compassion before the LORD my God for the Holy Temple Mound—while I was still speaking in prayer, the man, Gabriel, the heavenly messenger I saw in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice. He gave me this instruction, saying, ‘Daniel, now I have come to give you insight and understanding. As soon as you began pleading in prayer, the Lord responded, and I have come with the answers: for you’re a precious treasure; therefore, discern this matter, understand the vision.” Daniel 9:20-23

Daniel might have been seized by Nebuchadnezzar as a teenager and exiled to Babylon. King Darius might have thrown him to the lions because of the jealousy of his peers, but after a lifetime of faithful devotion to the LORD, Gabriel, God’s messenger angel, made sure that this octogenarian knew that he was a precious treasure in Heaven’s eyes. Just as soon as Daniel began to pray, God sent Gabriel to him, not only with the answer about the end of Israel’s exile, but also some revelation about when the Messiah would be sent to earth to deal with the problem, not only Israel’s sins, but all of our sins.

LORD, thanks that like Daniel, we are a treasure to you because of your Son, and we can count on a quick response to our prayers, infinitely faster than Amazon.
