Whether it’s a football game or the game of life, the statement “times up” is threatening and final.
Listen as Daniel interprets the writing on the wall. When the time ran out for King Belshazzar, he didn’t just lost his job. He lost his life.
“’Then from God’s presence the palm of the hand was sent and this is the writing that was inscribed: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, PARSIN. Here is the interpretation: Mene: God has numbered your kingdom and it is finished. Tekel: You have been weighed in the balances and found wanting. Peres: Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.’
Then Belshazzar ordered for Daniel to be clothed in purple, a gold chain was placed around his neck, and he was proclaimed the third ruler in the kingdom. That very night Belshazzar the Chaldean was killed and Darius the Mede took over the kingdom, at the age of sixty two.” Daniel 5:24:31
We don’t need to be defensive about those who reject the God of the Bible. As proved from this final chapter in King Belshazzar’s life, it’s obvious that God didn’t need to be defended. On the night of October 12, 539 BC, God said the Neo-Babylonian Empire was finished, and it was.
LORD, thanks for the evidence that you do show up in history and prove by your sovereign hand that pride, immorality, intoxication, and blasphemy against you does not win. Help me to clearly explain that your Son came so that we can believe in him before our time runs out.
