Freedom

They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity--for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him. 2 Peter 2:19

The world says freedom is pursuing pleasure. Go for all the gusto ... you only live once ... it doesn't get any better than this. But then the pleasure masters the man. He is a slave after all.

The world says freedom is secured in stuff. Smell the leather. Slide behind the wheel. Get the bigger, better, faster. He who has the most toys wins. But then the thing masters the man. He is a slave after all.

The world says freedom is established in a career. Get the right training. Land the right job. Climb to the top. But then the ascent masters the man. He is a slave after all.

The world says freedom is all about money. Save it here. Invest it there. Keep it to yourself. Fill the pot. But then the money masters the man. He is a slave after all.

Funny thing about the world's freedom ... it looks a lot like slavery.

Father, teach me again and again that true freedom comes from You. Give me the wisdom to know the difference between temporal and eternal investments. In Jesus' name. Amen.
