Faith Surrendered

"I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her.  Luke 1:38

This was Mary's surrender but not her first thought the day God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth. Following the angel's greeting, Mary "was greatly troubled at his words." Then the shocking news came. She was going to have a baby. His name would be Jesus. He would be called the "Son of the Most High," and He would oversee an eternal kingdom. "How will this be," Mary questioned, "since I am a virgin?" Gabriel's explanation was as mysterious as his presence. But his last words nailed the reality of the situation: "For nothing is impossible with God."

"I am the Lord's servant," is Mary's statement of surrender. The plan was beyond comprehension. Her engagement with the man she loved would be in jeopardy. Her pregnancy would not be understood, even by those closest to her. But she trusted the Creator God, the God of history, the God of Scripture, to continue to walk with her.

That's really what surrender is all about.

Father, use us. Not according to our plans, but Yours. Not within our resources, but Yours. May we know that nothing is impossible with You. May our words today be Mary's, I am Your servant. In Jesus' name. Amen.
