Wholehearted Trust

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.  Proverbs 3:5-6

Wholehearted trust. That's where a life sold out to God begins. The life of faith is not based on probabilities (the desire to eliminate risk) but possibilities (the desire to see God do amazing things). Trust is believing that through Jesus, God has done for me what I can't do for myself, and through the Holy Spirit, God does for me what I can't do by myself. Wholehearted trust does not have all the answers but knows the One who does. When I trust in the Lord, I no longer have to depend on my limited knowledge.

Wholehearted trust is the confidence that God knows best in all situations. He will always lead me in the right direction. He will always supply all I need to do what He wants me to do. Trust does not mean I disengage my brain or throw reason out the proverbial window. But there are times when I just can't figure it out, when things don't make sense, and when the directional signs are not well marked. That's when wholehearted trust must kick in.

Wholehearted trust gives me the courage to move forward when I am fearful; the strength to keep going when I am worn out; and the boldness to follow God's "Charge!" when my heart is crying, "Retreat!" When I recognize God as my leader in everything, He will remove the obstacles so I can follow the straight paths that lead to His intended destination. And when I arrive, there is a true sense of satisfaction knowing that I have taken a journey with God.

Wholehearted trust is not easy, but it is right. It honors God and it always produces the best for me.

Father, turn my halfhearted attempts at obedience into wholehearted trust. Turn my wavering into unshakeable faith. Show me the futility of trusting in myself. Show me the spiritual success of trusting in You alone. In Jesus' name. Amen.
