Love One Another

Read 1 John 3:11-15

For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. We should not be like Cain, who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brother's righteous. Do not be surprised, brothers, that the world hates you. We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death. Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

Reflect

How is hate like murder?

God populated the world with thousands of ethnic groups. According to the U.S. Center for World Missions in Pasadena, Calif., there are five major races (Australoid, Black, Capoid, Caucasian, Mongoloid), seven colors (black, white, yellow, red, tan, brown, gray), 432 major peoples, 9,000 distinct ethnic groups and more than 6,170 languages. Incredible, isn’t it? What’s even more amazing is that God knows every man, woman and child personally.

We are each very special in His eyes and equally loved by Him: “For God shows no partiality.” (Romans 2:11). You and I are one-of-a-kind, the very workmanship of God (Ephesians 2:10); knit together in our mothers’ wombs, fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:13-14). Indeed, the very hairs of our head are all numbered by the Lord (Luke 12:7)—that’s how precious we are to Him.

And here’s what our Lord calls us to do: live in peace. “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God” (Ephesians 5:1-2).

Pray

Lord, I praise You and thank You for giving us life, here on earth, and for all eternity. I thank You for making our lives count. Help me to love unconditionally. Show me how to see others the way

You see them: as Your very workmanship. Amen.
