Stand in Awe | Psalm 65:1-8
Todayís Passage: Psalm 65:1-8
Key Verses: Psalm 65:5-8
For the director of music. A psalm of David. A song.
You answer us with awesome and righteous deeds, God our Savior, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas, who formed the mountains by your power, having armed yourself with strength, who stilled the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the turmoil of the nations. The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.
Some commentators believe that David wrote this song to be sung when the first grain of the yearís barley harvest was brought to the Lord and waved as a dedication offering. The focus on the harvest is evident in verses 9-13. Here, David begins by focusing on Godís spiritual blessing.
God forgives our sins. When we are overwhelmed he delivers refreshing pardon. He brings us near to himself. He delivers ìawesome and righteousî answers to our prayers. God is the ìhope of all the ends of the earth.î The whole earth is filled with an amazement of all his wonders. His great work in our lives will ìcall forth songs of joy.î
Take time to enjoy Godís creation. Feel the warmth of the sunshine. Thank God for the rain. Be amazed by the stars. Experience the power of the ocean. Reflect on the majesty of the mountains. The whole earth ìis filled with awe at [Godís] wonders,î and the great Creator is ìGod our Savior.î
Father, help us take the time to enjoy your great creation. Help us stand in amazement of who you are and what you have done. Most of all, thank you for being our Savior and for bringing us near to you through your Son, Jesus. In his name we pray. Amen.
