There's An App For That: How Do I Find Direction? | 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5
It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God.

How Do I Find Direction? Follow God’s Revealed Will.

I just returned from a long road trip with my family. As we listened to the radio (country music, I confess), a station that was strong and clear in one part of Missouri would get static-y and cut out in another part of Missouri. It’s impossible to hear a station clearly when you are not in a position to hear the station clearly…and so it is with God.

Many people spend a lot of time fretting over God’s “specific” will regarding college, career, marriage, and many other important personal decisions. And certainly life is full of very important decisions! But we are not in a position to hear God clearly regarding his “specific” will if we are not following his “revealed” will. Today’s passage (and many others) explains God’s revealed will.

The principle is straightforward. If you are not willing to follow and obey God’s “revealed” instructions, how do you think the channels will be clear to hear God’s “specific” instructions? Now that’s a good question…even if I say so myself.

Lord, help us to keep first things first. Help us to obey what we know so we can clearly hear your instruction regarding the specific things you want us to do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
