The Journey with Ron Moore

Community: What Does It Look Like? | Romans 12:4-5 | Devotional

Romans 12:4-5 Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

My right hamstring spoke to me loud and clear a couple months ago. I was running sprints with my daughter and it decided to pop, causing me to cry out in extreme pain. I can't remember the last time I had even thought about my hamstring. But it got my attention. I iced it, wrapped it, and pampered it. I kept jogging in the mornings, slower than normal (if that's even possible) until it healed. And that's when I found that hamstrings are jealous. With my right hamstring almost back to normal, I picked up the pace a bit and BANG! my left hamstring popped. Evidently it was tired of carrying the extra weight and decided to get some attention of its own. Just in case they are reading this, I love both my hamstrings very much!

Just as the body has many parts, so does the body of Christ. Every part is important and vital to the health and well-being of the body. Some are out-front, visible, and evident to all; some are well hidden. But let's not forget about those who do the work behind the scenes. Believe me, they have a painful way of getting our attention.

Father, thank you for the many parts of the body of Christ. Whether working out-front or behind the scenes, thank you for all the contribution each one makes to further you kingdom. Don't let us forget about the "hamstrings." In Jesus’ name. Amen.
