Meditate | Psalm 119:97-104

Today's Passage: Psalm 119:97-104
Key Verses: Psalm 119:97-98,103-104

Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. Your commands are always with me and make me wiser than my enemies . . . How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path.

Do you ever watch those animal channels? The lions stalk the wildebeests or whatever and then all of a sudden the chase begins. The lion finally drags the thing down and kills it. Then lies in front of the animal and enjoys every nutritious morsel. That is a picture of the word "meditate." It is used to describe a lion enjoying his prey. He takes his time. Chews the food. Looks for every piece of meat. That is an instructive picture for us when it comes to reading Godís Word.

That's how we should read God's Word. Deliberately. Not in a hurry. Not just to check the daily reading box. Not just because your accountability partner is going to ask if you got your reading done. Not because the women in your study are keeping tabs. Not so you can tell your grandchildren you have read through the Bible every year since you were 35. The key word is: meditate.

Slow down and enjoy. Think on it for a while. "Chew" on it. Not just in your quiet time. Think it over on your way to work. Donít dismiss the truth when the day gets busy. Remember this is good stuff. "Sweeter than honey." You're going to want to enjoy the feast all day long!

Father, help us savor your love letter to us. Help us meditate on it day and night. In Jesus' name. Amen.
