The Journey with Ron Moore

Road Rules | Proverbs 15:30 | Devotional

Proverbs 15:30 A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones.

“Just one look, that’s all it took,” hey, “Just one look, that’s all it took” ...remember the song? Sing it with me, ready, “Just one look….” Written and sung by Doris Troy in 1963, the song peaked at #10 on the U.S. singles chart. And, you have to admit, Troy’s song has some good theology. Sometimes one look is all it takes…if the look is in line with Proverbs 15:30.

A cheerful look—a facial expression of a cheerful heart—that’s the key. Some people walk around with faces so long they could siphon gas out of a gas tank. Think of what must be going on in their heart! But a cheerful look coming from a cheerful heart brings joy to others. So here’s today’s challenge. Bring joy to someone’s heart. Offer some good news with a sincere smile. Say something meaningful and encouraging. Determine to brighten a person’s day and pray that God will lead you to just the right person.

By the way, Doris Troy was a one hit wonder. But don’t let the application of Proverbs 15:30 be a one hit wonder for you. Do it again on Wednesday and Thursday and Friday and….

Father, this seems like such a simple prayer. But please let us brighten another person’s day. Lead us to the person who needs encouragement and may we bring joy to the heart of another. For Christ’s sake. Amen.
