Road Rules | Proverbs 15:23 | Devotional

Proverbs 15:23 A man finds joy in giving an apt reply-- and how good is a timely word!

Do you ever wonder if anything you are doing is making the impact you believe God is calling you to make? I do. In fact, I was feeling that way not long ago. I wasn’t thinking of throwing in the towel or jumping off of bridge, but I was in a funk of discouragement. And that’s when God sent a “messenger” with a “timely word.”

Amazingly, the timely words changed my attitude almost instantly. It wasn’t so much what was said. But I was taken that God cared enough to send a “messenger” with such an apt message. Sometimes the timely words come from Him and go something like this, “Quit feeling sorry for yourself.” But other times, He knows I need more than the proverbial kick in the pants. He knows I need a person in the flesh to look me in the eye and offer encouragement.

Maybe you are in a funk of discouragement today. Please know how much God loves you. Please know how much He cares for you. Remember, that “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all-- how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:32) If you’re not in a “funk,” maybe He is appointing you to be His “Messenger of the Timely Word.” That’s an honor in and of itself.

Father, I pray for three things. First, send encouragement to those who need it. Second, send some messengers on “Timely Word” missions. Finally, if we just need to quit feeling sorry for ourselves, let us know that too. In Jesus name. Amen.
