Road Rules | Proverbs 19:21 | Devotional
Proverbs 19:21 Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails.
The transformed heart is made to dream. Big dreams! Great things! Let’s be honest. What real Christian says, “I want to barely be saved, live a go-along-to-get-along Christian life, and make it into heaven by the skin of my teeth.” That’s pathetic. The true believer wants to do great things for God. The true believer wants to use the few days here on earth to make kingdom impact. The true believer wants to leave something lasting behind. The true believer wants to hear, “Well done, my good and faithful servant!”
And . . . the true believer knows this: God is sovereign. When we truly seek to follow hard after Him, He will open the doors to the paths of His choosing. He will shut the doors to paths not intended for us. It will be amazing how many times we will find ourselves “in the right place at the right time.” There will be enough “coincidences” in life that we will soon realize there are no “coincidences” in life. We will be blown away to find how things that seems devastating “somehow” worked out for our good.
So follow hard after God! Dream big dreams for Him! He is more than capable of corralling your plans and turning them in His direction. Martin Luther said, “Love God and do what you will.” Luther knew that the Lord’s purposes will always prevail in the heart that is in love with Him.
Father, give us the courage and confidence and faith to dream big dreams for You! Give us the deep understanding that when we follow hard after You, Your purposes will prevail. In Christ’s Name. Amen.
