The Journey with Ron Moore

The Greatest Text Message | 1 Peter 1:22-25 | Devotional

1 Peter 1:22-25
Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. For, "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever." And this is the word that was preached to you.

303 Kaw Street. That is where I grew up. From the fourth grade on, I lived in that house with a large corner lot. The yard was great for football; long enough to take two bombs from my 10-year-old arm to score. The yard was ideal for whiffle ball. It took a pretty good shot to clear the long hedge that lined one end and separated center field from the gravel driveway. There was much laughter and love in that house. Its memories are rich in my mind.

Things have changed in the last decades at 303 Kaw Street. Today, the house is sadly run down. The grassy yard of my youth is now more dirt than grass. The center field hedge has been taken down. One Sunday in 1977, we rushed my dad from that house to the hospital. He never returned. It was bigger and lonely without him. My mom moved to a smaller house a couple years later. Now she is gone as well.

For most people around my age, the yards of our childhood are gone or significantly altered. And many of the people who shaped and molded who we are today are gone as well. Things on this earth don’t last. Except for this one thing: The Word of God. From generation to generation; from the up-swings and the down-ticks; through aging and disease the Word of God stands forever.

Thank God for His everlasting Word!
