The Master Plan
Read Ephesians 1:9-11
...making known to us the mystery of His will, according to His purpose, which He set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in Him, things in heaven and things on earth. In Him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will...
What is the “mystery’ God has revealed to us?
People frequently wonder why God doesn’t do something about the evil in the world. My response is that God has done something about it, and He is currently doing something about it. What’s more, is that He hasn’t left His plan shrouded in complete mystery. He has revealed His plan to us, and that plan is Jesus Christ. Jesus is the solution. He is the master plan.
It’s important to understand that God was not simply reacting to chaos and rebellion when He sent Jesus. God was not surprised or caught off-guard by sinfulness. In reality, Paul makes it clear that God has always had a plan to save and redeem His people. A plan that He developed with Christ before the foundation of the world. A plan that He “set forth” in the “fullness of time.” When He sent Jesus down to earth to live and to die as a man on our behalf, He set His redemptive plan into motion.
The plan always has been that Jesus would bring all of the rebellious creation under His control and redeem us. The problem of sin and evil will be resolved decisively, once and for all. In Philippians, Paul explained that “at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:10-11).
I know the world seems chaotic. But Scripture is clear that God has everything under control. He is working everything out according to His will. The entire world will soon know that Jesus is in charge here-even if they deny it now. All of creation will hit their knees in His presence.
Friends, long before the foundation of the world, God had already designed a plan to save you and me. Paul reassures us that God is working all things according to that plan. He has a purpose, and He can use every event for our good, His glory, and to advance His purposes. Rest assured, friends, everything is going according to His plan.
God, thank You for loving me enough to make a way for me to be restored to a relationship with You. You knew I would sin, and yet, You loved me even before You made me. You knew I would need a Savior, and You provided Your son. Help me to trust Your plan when the world seems out of control. Amen.
