April 2
God designed it that way
Pastor Mark Jeske

The single life is great. The freedom and independence you enjoy open up many possibilities for travel, sudden employment changes, risk taking, use of your time, and lifestyle. Still, marriage offers some powerful advantages over the single life. God designed it that way.

Solomon’s concise poetic verses in Ecclesiastes summarize four powerful blessings of married life: “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor.” In this country, by retirement age each married person’s net worth on average is double that of a single person. “If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” Marriage is the ultimate buddy system—life is full of hard knocks, and your spouse will always be there for you. “If two lie down together, they will keep warm.” A double marital promise—not only does marriage provide the only God-pleasing way to express your sexuality, there is a great emotional warmth and security that only married people can enjoy. “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12). A husband-wife team has twice the skills and twice the brainpower of a lone individual.

You theoretically only get to do this once. So when you’re in the dating game, don’t just settle for people who are fun to be with. Have an eye on what kind of long-term partner he or she would be.

And whether or not he or she is a Christian.

See how the power of God’s grace works through you!
