Children are God’s agents too
Pastor Mark Jeske
Adults have a thousand ways to make children feel small. We mean well. We want to protect them, prevent them from hurting themselves or others, let them grow and mature. We want to do all the teaching, sharing with them our vast learning and life wisdom. We want to prepare them for service to the Lord someday. Well, children are God’s agents too, and occasionally he will use them for extraordinary service right now.
“Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty-one years. He did what was right in the eyes of the Lordand followed the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left. In the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young, he began to seek the God of his father David. In his twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of high places, Asherah poles and idols”(2 Chronicles 34:1-3). Think of it—a second grader became king of Judah, and at the age of a college sophomore he was ready to lead a spiritual reformation that changed the entire country and brought a generation of peace and prosperity from God.
A servant girl led the chief of the Syrian general staff, Naaman, to the prophet Elisha. What can your children and grandchildren teach you? How are they changing the world around them? How is God using them to bring love and understanding to your world?
