The chosen one
Pastor Mike Novotny
We love the idea of a “chosen one,” don’t we? Think of how many of our best stories involve the coming of some special person who will carry out a special mission and bring a special blessing to his people. Harry Potter, according to the prophecy, was chosen to fight against Lord Voldemort. Luke Skywalker, many believed, was the chosen Jedi who would restore balance to the Force. Neo from the Matrix and Aslan from Narnia were the same.
Why do we love those stories? Because they remind us of the greatest story of all—the true story of Jesus. On the night he was born, the angel said, “Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord” (Luke 2:11). The Hebrew title Messiah literally means, “the anointed one,” but today we would say, “the chosen one.” Jesus was chosen by God to take on human flesh, chosen to be anointed with the Holy Spirit, and chosen to bring a special blessing to his people, including you.
Because Jesus was the chosen one, you have been forgiven of that sin that you still struggle with (yes, that one too). You have an answer to every accusation of the enemy who claims you are not good enough to be loved, liked, and accepted by God (he never quits that claim, does he?). Because Jesus was the truly chosen one, you are one of God’s chosen people.
God designed you for more than you can imagine. And he gifted you uniquely to fulfill his incredible calling! Find out what your spiritual gifts are with the tools in Gifted for More by Dr. Bruce Becker.
