February 11
The Bible’s words are God’s words
Pastor Mark Jeske

It is common practice for Christians to quote the authors of the various books of the Bible as though they were just like all other authors, i.e., responsible for generating their own content. While Scripture does indeed use each writer’s own linguistic style and life situation, God in fact inspired and controlled all content. The Bible is not a collection of man’s words about God; it is a collection of God’s words about God.

The apostle Peter could be very humble about certain things. He was acutely aware of the shame and hurt that his early boasting and later denials of Christ on Good Friday brought about. But he was absolutely fearless about the source of the material in his two letters, and in all of Scripture for that matter: “Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:20,21).

Powerful concept: if people don’t like something in the Bible, they can’t just blow it off as the private opinion of a nice but misguided fellow. They are now messing with God. Peter’s strong words relieve you of an impossible task—trying to figure out which if any of the Bible’s words might be true and from God.

Yo—they’re all true.

Urgent goal for an urgent need!

Help reach a $116,000 goal by February 28 to reach a generation of young people who are disengaging from their faith . . . and are increasingly leaving the church.

And when you give today, we’ll send you the book More Than Enough to say thanks for helping share Jesus’ love with more young people. As you face circumstances in life that cause you to doubt and worry, the empowering truth from this book will remind you all over again of the greater reality that’s in your life. And that’s Jesus.
