Victory in the courts
“Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them” (Hebrews 11:16).
Every time the Supreme Court rules on a hot social topic, my Facebook feed is filled with opinions from both sides. Television reports show the chaos created when throngs of supporters and protestors converge. People either celebrate or decry the direction the nation is headed. In the middle of every ruling, it seems we are looking to make this world into a place that we like. But when we start looking to that group of judges to give us hope, we’re looking in the wrong place.
Look at the people around you, fighting so vehemently for their earthly causes, and see them as Jesus did, people who have a very specific number of days to hear what Jesus has done for them. People who need to know that no matter what they think about this country, there is a better country—a heavenly one.
Then talk to them, both the ones with similar political leanings and the ones who are on the opposite end of the spectrum. Listen to them. Love them. Tell them of the God who didn’t come to create an earthly kingdom but who came to make sure that God the Judge will rule in their favor when it comes to the heavenly country.
