Help is on the way
Pastor Mark Jeske
Epiphanyis one of those “church words” whose meaning keeps slipping from your mind no matter how often you hear it. It comes from two Greek words meaning “shining through.” It is a reference to how at select times the Father authorized Jesus in his humility to let his true glory “shine through” his earthly disguise.
Those glory moments were sights for sore Israelite eyes. Their nation had been battered, defeated, shrunk, impoverished, and incorporated into various empires. To gloomy Israelites, the prophet Zechariah’s words gave hope while they waited for God to bring relief:“[Christ, your King]will proclaim peace to the nations. His rule will extend from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth. As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will free your prisoners from the waterless pit. Return to your fortress, you prisoners of hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you”(Zechariah 9:10-12).
Like little Israel, we are still in the time of warfare. How encouraging it is for us to hear of Jesus’ Epiphany miracles! It gives us hope that peace is coming; it gives us inspiration to see that he truly is the King of all the world; it gives us patience to bear with suffering and want now, knowing that in heaven God will double compensate us for everything we gave up for him here.
Let the Epiphany glory of God’s Son shine on your face and make you smile today.
