It’s the Lord’s fight
There they were, stuck between the Red Sea and the Egyptian army. On one side the Israelites faced death by drowning, on the other the army of their former captors was racing toward them, assuring them of a gruesome death. That’s when the complaining started. Moses, their leader, stood up and told them, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. . . . The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still” (Exodus 14:13,14).
Frankly, you’ll never find yourself between a body of water and a charging Egyptian army. But you can sympathize with the Israelites, can’t you? As God allows challenges, even life-threatening ones, in your life, you know it’s so easy to complain, asking him why me and why now?
Let Moses’ words calm your heart. Place your worry at the feet of Jesus’ cross. There Jesus fought—and won—the biggest battle of your life. Now you get to watch him work through your current struggle.
Maybe God fights for you by giving you the strength to keep going. Maybe he fights for you by giving you a complete rescue or a miraculous healing. Maybe he will fight for you by taking you home to heaven, because a temporary loss on this earth is his eternal victory.
No matter how he works, God’s got this. Stand firm. Be still. See his deliverance.
