God loved us first
Linda Buxa

Why do we love God? We love God because he first loved us. Well, that’s the answer we are supposed to give, isn’t it?

Honestly though, sometimes I act as if I love God, but really I’m just going through the motions. Sometimes I act as if I love God because that is what you expect. I act as if I love God because I want my life to go well. I act as if I love God because I want to look good.

If I hadn’t confessed it, you might never know that because I hide it well—and rationalize it even better. I bet you do too.

Proverbs 16:2 strips away our pretenses: “All a man’s ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the Lord.

This proverb would leave me feeling really—really—guilty if it weren’t for Jesus. He took the punishment for all the times my motives were more about me and less about God. He suffered God’s anger for the times I put my comfort in front of him. He bore the brunt of the punishment for when I talked about God’s love but failed to show it.

He lived his entire life loving his Father with a pure heart. We get the credit for that. Then his love fills us with the peace that passes all understanding.
We really do love God because he loved us first—from before we were even born with a love that never ends. His love never fails.

Learn how to manage your life—God’s way!

Money Talk: Managing My Life—God’s Way is a new book by Pastor Mark Jeske based on the proven principles of God’s Word. It shows that when you’re operating in God’s financial wisdom and generosity, you’ll gain more in return! And that means living a life that’s more content, more at peace, and more secure, as you realign your thinking and invest in what really matters to him.
