A new thing
Sometimes I would just like to ride it out and not learn one more new thing. But I want to try to stay current for a lot of reasons. I don’t want to become the grumpy, old Caucasian gumming up the works.
I have a very strong bias that the future belongs to those who not only know and believe in what God has done in the past but also perceive what God is doing right now. I got this idea from him. “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland” (Isaiah 43:19).
If you can be the kind of leader who perceives what God is doing, you will make a way in the wilderness for your family, business, and church. If you can see through the tangled underbrush and find the open areas, you will be able to seize new opportunities. That kind of vision is developed by paying close attention to everything, gathering lots of information from credible sources, and connecting many data points so you can point the way forward. A clear focus comes out of a broad view. A sense of direction is God’s gift wrapped in a hunch. Go ahead and take the way he is making for you.
God does new things. God blesses new things. When you can show others the streams of salvation in the wasteland, they will follow you because everyone needs to be refreshed.
