June 12
Thanks, dads!
Linda Buxa

Father’s Day is coming, but it seems like Dad will get the short end of the stick. Mother’s Day is filled with ads reminding you to get flowers and buy presents! But dads get a silly card and a tie. (Though steak or burgers on the grillcounts for something.)

Dads don’t get nearly as much credit for parenting. But we all suffer the repercussions when men don’t do the job God has given them. Children from fatherless homes are more likely to commit suicide, run away, have behavior disorders, drop out of school, and end up in jail than children from homes where Dad was active.

So, dads, as we look ahead to this Sunday, know that we notice what you do. We are thankful because you

  • use your “Dad voice” when the kids disrespect Mom.
  • make the kids finish the chores even when they are whining.
  • run behind the bike until your firstborn finally masters the task.
  • love the Lord your God with all your heart.
  • tuck in your little ones (and not so little ones) and say a blessing over them.
  • pray for your family while you are commuting.
  • throw your kids up in the air while Mom closes her eyes.
  • fight for full or joint custody against a court system that doesn’t appreciate your worth.
  • talk about God’s commandments and “start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it” (Proverbs 22:6).

You have the power to change your world!

The Bible tells the story of how God reformed a misshaped world through Jesus. How you see yourself fitting into that story shapes you. And as you reach out to share that story, it can’t help but shape the world around you!
