Truth will triumph
Jason Nelson

What happens in Vegas might stay in Vegas, but everywhere else I think the truth will come out. It is a lesson of history. God raises up people who make sure truth is ultimately told. When the truth is revealed, even under the most difficult circumstances, an attribute of God is revealed. Jesus said, “I am . . . the truth” (John 14:6). There is truth because there is a God.

Sometimes the truth hurts, but we can handle it. I learned that lesson from my father. He took a love and logic approach to parenting long before Foster Cline and Jim Fay made it popular. Discipline in our house always revolved around a long painful discussion. My dad said, “I won’t punish you if you tell me the truth.” He meant it and generally kept his promise. But there were always consequences for lying to him. He had a great nose for sniffing out a lie and getting at the truth. I am very grateful he took time to notch the power of truth into my conscience.

The thing that troubles me most about our public discourse is blatant disregard for truth. People aren’t allowed to operate with “alternative facts.” People aren’t allowed to manipulate information to distort reality. People aren’t allowed to lie. Didn’t they have dads who taught them that? My dad taught me that truth will triumph and that we have every right to expect to hear it because there is a God.
