Rediscover reading . . . your Bible
In honor of Theodor Seuss Geisel’s birthday, mayors are reading in classrooms and teachers are tying their lesson plans to Dr. Seuss books—all to celebrate Read Across America Day. They want students to rediscover a love of reading.
What if Christians seized this day to celebrate Read the Bible Across America Day? If we rediscovered a love of God’s message with the same excitement and energy as kiddos who read silly rhyming words?
But we have grown-up excuses, don’t we? Maybe the Bible seems as confusing as the tongue twisters in Fox in Socks. Maybe your schedule seems as chaotic as The Cat in the Hat, and you can’t find a moment to rest. Maybe God didn’t answer your prayers the way you wanted so he seems more like the Grinch who stole Christmasthan a heavenly Father who loves you.
When you take time to read the book by the Author of Life, you’ll see how much he offers. In Matthew 11:28 he invites you to come when you’re tired, to climb on his lap, to Hop on Pop, because he gives your weary soul rest. He tells you Oh, the Places You’ll Go! because you can do all things through Jesus who gives you strength (Philippians 4:13). You’ll see he has never broken a promise, so you can trust that “he meant what he said and he said what he meant. Your God is faithful one hundred percent!” (altered from Horton Hearsa Who!).
