Study your enemy
Pastor Mark Jeske
Pro football teams take their week of practice very seriously. Their scouts and analysts always work ahead in order to provide up-to-date information on their next opponent. They scour statistics to develop their strategy; they watch game film so that they will know how their opponent operates; they have the reserves run their opponent’s plays all week.
You need to study your enemy as well. Satan masquerades as an angel of light. In some ways it would be a lot easier to detect him if he and his demons still possessed people on the scale they did at Jesus’ time. Everyone then could see that the devil was a monster. But he’s back to his sly and subtle ways, talking with the same friendly, silky inner voice that first seduced Eve to commit spiritual suicide.
Study your enemy! Take him seriously! “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith” (1 Peter 5:8,9). If you know your Bible, you will know his lies when you hear them. If God’s Word is a light for your path, you will know when you are on the wrong road. If you know your Bible, you will be able to tell who are your real friends and who are the destroyers.
If you know your Bible, you will recognize the voice of Jesus, your Good Shepherd, whose protection will keep you safe from Satan.
Challenge Grant makes your gift worth TWICE as much!
Generous donors have stepped forward with a $50,000 grant—and they’re challenging friends like you to meet it in full!
That means your gift will be worth TWICE as much to help share the timeless truths of God’s Word through television and digital outreach.
When you give, we’ll say thanks by sending you our new book, Grief Doesn’t Have the Last Word. It will encourage you about how much God loves you, how he brings great blessings out of losses, and how he’s making things turn out for your good.
