Reading about states’ dumb laws is an entertaining way to waste time on the Internet.
In Denver, Colorado, it’s illegal to lend your vacuum to your next-door neighbor. (For the record, my neighbors are always welcome to vacuum my house.)
You may not run out of gas in Youngstown, Ohio. (Smart, but do you really need a law for that?)
Tennessee residents may notimport, possess, or cause to be imported any type of live skunk, or to sell, barter, or exchange. (Who would want to?!)
In Walnut, California, you need a permit from the sheriff to wear a mask or disguise on a public street. (There has to be an exception for trick-or-treating, don’t you think?)
Finally, the state code in Alabama only gives you five minutes to vote. (Hope you made up your mind before you went in there!)
Dumb laws made by humans were usually precipitated because of dumb actions by humans. God’s law was given to humans, not because he calls us dumb, but because God is love. He knows that when we follow his laws his way, our lives are so much more at peace with him. Like King David, we say, “Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble. I wait for your salvation, Lord, and I follow your commands. I obey your statutes, for I love them greatly. I obey your precepts and your statutes, for all my ways are known to you” (Psalm 119:165-168).
Lord, I love your law!
